Phil Bensen

If asked, singer-songwriter Phil Bensen will tell you that he never wanted to be a musician growing up. Growing up in New Jersey, he wasn’t one of those young boys with lofty dreams of being a rock star. Instead, he picked up the guitar at 18 and began playing solo gigs at local coffee houses. After only a short time as a performer, Phil began to play open mics at Asbury Park’s legendary Stone Pony, something that was undoubtedly a dream for many other young musicians. With a voice reminiscent of a Jason Mraz, mixed with a Jackson 5-era Michael Jackson, it’s not surprising that he drew the attention of the club’s promoter. Things quickly took off from there.

While releasing a couple of EPs through the indie label, Lincstar, Phil toured with the likes of Secondhand Serenade, The Jonas Brothers, Parachute, Nick Lachey, Lifehouse, Blues Traveler and Pete Yorn. He played the main stage at New Jersey’s Bamboozle Festival and continued on to tour around the country.

Phil has recently relocated to the west coast to share his music with a new audience. With his first full length album due out later this year Phil Bensen is most certainly one to watch.
